  20.         Description of Working Group:
  21.  
  22.              The working group is chartered to work on issues related
  23.              to the deployment of CLNP in the Internet.    The first
  24.              area of this group's work has been the learning 
  25.              necessary to start deploying OSI in internet networks.
  26.              This phase has included:
  27.  
  28.                  a.) planning OSI deployment by  creating 
  29.                      routing plans for regional networks
  30.                 
  31.                  b.) education of group to OSI routing protocols.
  32.  
  33.             This first area of the group's work will be on-going as
  34.             we continue to deploy OSI in the Internet.  This step
  35.             has lead to people deploying OSI for Pilot projects and
  36.             demonstrations of OSI. 
  37.  
  38.             The second step of deploying OSI  will need  to
  39.             OSI from a Pilot service to a Production service.
  40.             During this phase we will work on specifying the
  41.             network debugging tools and  test beds.  We will need to
  42.             track the level of OSI support in the internet.
  43.             We will need to provide documentation for new users of
  44.             OSI on the Internet.

  46.              Note on timeframe:  Group is entering 2nd phase of
  47.              goals.  The next two IETF meetings  in March of 1992
  48.          and July of 1992 will focus on these second phase goals.

  50.         Goals and Milestones:
  51.  
  52.            Jan 92  Create tutorials for CLNP OSI routing protocols, 
  53.                    including ES-IS, CLNP, IS-IS, and IDRP.
  54.  
  55.            Jul 92  Collect OSI Routing and Addressing plans into a
  56.                    Repository.  Make the plans available at 
  57.                    Merit.edu:/pub/iso/noop/plan 
  58.  
  59.            ongoing Provide a forum to discuss these OSI Routing plans
  60.                    by email or in group discussions
  61.  
  62.            Apr 92  Survey networks on OSI support, and publish
  63.                    this information
  64.  
  65.            Apr 92  Create a Network Tools RFC on what OSI network
  66.                    tools are needed on every Host and router
  67.  
  68.            Apr 92  Create a FYI - 10 Most Asked Questions about
  69.                    OSI on the Internet
  70.  
  71.            Apr 92  Create a Description of a National Test Bed for
  72.                    OSI
  73.  
  74.        Apr 92  Create a RFC on what security is need for OSI
  75.            routers and applications in the Internet
  76.  
  77.            Jul 92 Collect a list of OSI Network Utilities available
  78.                    in the public domain and from vendors.  This list
  79.                    will be passed over to the NOC tools group effort
  80.                    for joint publication.
